Restorative Yoga
Description
Restorative yoga is a holistic practice that is a gentle, slow, still style of yoga that involves long, passive holds in a series of 4-6 restful poses. Yogis are supported by props to enhance or deepen their experience and achieve a state of total relaxation and release. It is a receptive form of yoga that requires no physical exertion. The entire practice is meant to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system bringing it into a state of balance. Restorative is an important self care strategy that supports physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual health. This class is the perfect way to end and start your week by consciously letting go, releasing traumas while being supported, it will help you find the balance needed so much in your life.
My story with restorative: As a dancer, I didn't like to stop moving and paid for it with two knee surgeries. I also struggled with depression and trauma from several unexpected events in my life that led me to yoga. These series of events in my life were a big wake up call to do something different and slow down especially since the emotional stress can become physical problems affecting our organs. I have learned through my experiences just how important slowing down and practicing stillness is for our overall wellbeing. Releasing traumas from our bodies through intentional breath and true restful recovery is a necessity for the healing journey. I am passionate about sharing this gift and practice of restorative yoga with others who are healing as well, as it has proven to help me in healing myself.
